LinkedIn is down outage

LinkedIn is down today with a generic “An error has occured” (sic) message. You know it’s not a typical outage when the homepage is showing you a typo.

The LinkedIn API Status and Incidents page notes that the company is investigating the issue. The confirmation came at 10:58 p.m. Pacific: “We are currently experiencing an issue across the platform that may cause some API requests to take longer or fail unexpectedly. We are investigating the issue and working on a resolution.”

At 11:06 a.m. Pacific, LinkedIn confirmed the problem on Twitter: “Some members may be experiencing an issue with accessing LinkedIn on mobile and desktop. We’re working on this as we speak and will provide updates as we have them. Thanks for your patience!”

This morning, LinkedIn introduced new features on Pages for businesses. It’s not clear if this rollout is related to the outage.

We have contacted Microsoft for more information and will update this post when we hear back.

Update at 11:33 p.m. Pacific: LinkedIn is starting to come back, at least for some users. Others are still getting errors.

Update at 11:40 p.m. Pacific: A LinkedIn spokesperson confirmed the outage to GeekWire and sent along the same statement as in the aforementioned tweet.

Update at 11:44 p.m. Pacific: “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented,” according to the LinkedIn API Status and Incidents page.

Update at 11:48 p.m. Pacific: “This incident has been resolved,” the page now says.

Update at 11:55 p.m. Pacific: At least some users are still seeing errors, suggesting that while the API side may be working, the underlying problem for the site has not yet been resolved.
